A Young Female Quits Drinking, Experiences Alcohol Withdrawal Symptoms, And Makes Up Her Mind To Get Alcohol Treatment
Kayla is a thirty-nine-year-old public records researcher who has been drinking in an excessive and irresponsible manner since her boyfriend and she decided to break off their relationship. Indeed, for the past five months she has been drinking almost a bottle of wine every night, and on the weekends she also has been drinking more than a few mixed drinks throughout the day. In a word, Kayla has been drinking so excessively and hazardously that it's a miracle that she hasn't suffered from alcohol withdrawals when she tried to quit drinking.
After feeling dispirited because she was starting to disregard her health, Kayla at long last told herself that enough is enough, that it's time to stop the self pity party, that it's time to stop the hazardous and irresponsible drinking, and time to make a new start with her life. So the next Saturday morning at 8:30 AM, she decided to quit drinking suddenly and completely without preparation or planning.
When she called her best girlfriend and told her that she had stopped drinking and that after a couple of hours she without any warning started to experience flu-like symptoms, Patricia, her best friend, told Kayla to call her physician and explain in a clear manner what she was going through.
Her physician informed her that she may be going through alcohol withdrawal symptoms and that she should have a relative or neighbor drive her to the emergency room as soon as possible. Apparently her physician had phoned ahead and told the emergency room staff to expect Kayla because when she got to the hospital, she was met by two ER employees who promptly asked her to lie down on the portable bed they had with them.
A healthcare professional gave her some medications to reduce the discomfort of her flu-like symptoms and also gave her some medications to help get rid of the alcohol that was still in her body. After two or three hours, Kayla was removed from the emergency room and transported to the recovery room.
After she was in recovery for nearly an hour-and-a-half, Doctor Harmon, an alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency specialist, came to talk to her. He took quite a bit of time and explained in a clear fashion that Kayla had experienced alcohol withdrawal symptoms when she stopped drinking due to the fact that she had become alcohol dependent.
He then discussed the fact that with heavy drinking on an everyday basis, the drinker's brain in a step-by-step fashion adjusts to the alcohol in order to function in a "normal" fashion. When the drinker then suddenly abstains from ingesting alcohol, understandably, the brain responds by generating alcohol withdrawal symptoms. Moreover, her medical practitioner also discussed the various alcoholism symptoms that a person who is alcohol dependent almost always suffers through as the disease advances.
Fortunately for Kayla, it was discovered that she was in the earliest stage of alcoholism and, consequently, she received a good diagnosis for a complete recovery if she receives the alcohol rehab she needs.
Kayla told the physician that she will do whatever it takes to get sober and to regain her life. She also mentioned that she has a first-rate hospitalization insurance policy that will more likely than not pay for most of the treatment costs. It was clear to see that Kayla was very pleased with her positive medical prognosis and felt free from worry knowing that she will be able to get the alcohol addiction treatment she needs so that she can start on the road to recovery.
