An Alcohol Addicted Individual Goes To Rehab And Gets Alcohol Detox And Rehabilitation For His Alcoholism

Donald used to talk big to his friends how he could stay employed at a 40 hour per week job and get intoxicated almost every night. Sadly, after maintaining this destructive lifestyle for roughly four years, he began to exhibit various alcohol related problems.

For example, he had a very hard time getting up for work because he felt so exhausted when he got up. Furthermore, just about every morning Donald experienced a horrible hangover. Undoubtedly, the combination of his lack of get-up-and-go and his hangovers did not make it easy for him to get up and feel energized to go to work. To make matters worse, approximately a week ago he received his third driving under the influence citation in the past thirteen weeks.

To compound things further, at his job his last two work assessments were less than acceptable. And lastly, his four-year relationship with his girlfriend had gotten worse due to his depression, lack of patience, angry outbursts, and his financial difficulties.

Though Donald was only twenty seven years old, he simply began looking like he was in his late forties. Unfortunately, this is what careless and excessive drinking can do to a person. And in truth he understood that he was suffering from the negative outcomes of alcoholism or alcohol abuse and that he was too young to throw away his life to irresponsible and hazardous drinking. So at first he tried to drink in moderation. Sadly, he soon realized that he lost his self control after consuming his first drink. Since this was an event that was repeated every single time he drank, this obviously worried him a great deal. In actual fact, he began to wonder if he was displaying some of the stages of alcoholism.

After articulating his alcohol drinking problems and his excessive and hazardous drinking with his girlfriend, he eventually decided to schedule an appointment to see his physician. When Donald saw his healthcare professional, he genuinely confirmed that he has been drinking in an excessive manner, that he may be exhibiting behavior characteristic of the various alcoholism stages, and that he wants to abstain from drinking. He then said that drinking in moderation does not work well for him and consequently, he wants to learn how he can develop an alcohol-free lifestyle.

Donald also told his family doctor about his depression and how this mental health problem was adversely affecting his relationship with his lady friend. His doctor referred Donald to Doctor Mayer, a drug and alcohol addiction psychologist, who convinced Donald to register in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center as an in-patient for alcohol detoxification and alcohol rehab. The good news is that Donald would also be able to get medical attention for his depression at this facility.

After five months of intensive rehabilitation, Donald left the in-patient treatment facility and continued his recovery via going to local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and via outpatient counseling. Encouraged to change his life in a healthier manner, Donald joined a gym and began working out three or four times per week. Within nine months Donald was a new man. He was not depressed anymore, he was in shape, he was eating nutritious meals, and most significant of all, he maintained his sobriety for many months. He also became more patient, he did not resort to angry outbursts, and he became a more loving person in his relationship with his lady friend. In short, abstaining from drinking was the best decision Donald had ever made.
