Excessive And Careless Drinking Leads To Depression And Mental Health Issues, An Enabling Wife, And Inspiration For Affirmative Change
It took many years but Sarah finally made up her mind that she had it with her husband's careless and hazardous drinking. She was worn-out from seeing Keith come home late at night from drinking rather than spending much needed time with her and the kids. She was also worn-out from the third DUI Keith recently received. Additionally she was sick of manufacturing reasons for Keith when he couldn't make it to work on time due to his abusive and hazardous drinking.
Not only this but she was apprehensive about the fact that their relationship was crumbling due to Keith's careless and hazardous drinking. And lastly she was worn-out from the shaky financial jam into which he had placed his family due to his unhealthy and excessive drinking behavior.
One Wednesday afternoon when Sarah was thinking about what she could do about her husband's careless and hazardous drinking, she got to the point that she honestly had to do something constructive to cut into the unhealthy cycle of Keith's careless and excessive drinking behavior. So Sarah looked on the web under "alcohol treatment" and found several treatment centers that were all located less than forty-five miles away from where she and her husband lived.
When Sarah called each rehabilitation center she introduced herself and said that Keith, her husband, was involved in careless and hazardous drinking behavior. She also said that her spouse had an outstanding health insurance program at his job and that outpatient or inpatient alcohol abuse rehab would be covered if a health care professional in the company health plan suggested the rehabilitation.
After listening to Sarah go over her husband's excessive and abusive drinking, the healthcare professional in a caring but firm manner told Sarah how she may have played a part in her spouse's unhealthy and excessive drinking through the years. How? Primarily by rationalizing his drinking rather than allowing him to experience the consequences of his careless and hazardous drinking behavior.
Stated in a slightly different way, the physician told Sarah that she may have been inadvertently enabling Keith's careless and excessive drinking behavior. The psychologist also highlighted the point that Sarah could not control her spouse's conduct. With the guidance and encouragement of the treatment team at the rehabilitation center, on the other hand, she would not only be able to learn how to refrain from contributing to Keith's careless and abusive drinking but she could also learn how to motivate him to schedule an appointment at the rehab clinic so that he could go over his careless and excessive drinking behavior with a psychologist.
Fortunately after Sarah mentioned this to her husband and he saw that she was not joking, he told her that he had been extremely apprehensive about his excessive and abusive drinking behavior and that he was very thankful to learn that Sarah wanted to do something productive about his careless and abusive drinking behavior. As a result, he scheduled an appointment to see a healthcare practitioner at the local alcohol rehab clinic.
While simply calling a rehabilitation clinic does not ensure that an individual's careless and abusive drinking behavior will stop or that an individual will automatically be more willing to learning about alcohol abuse facts, scheduling an appointment is clearly a crucial feature in the treatment process. And because Keith wanted to learn more about alcohol abuse statistics, about getting counseling for his careless drinking, and about alcohol abuse and alcoholism the probability for a successful recovery was greatly enhanced.
