Large Block Engines Have Lots Of Advantages For Vehicle Aficionados

Since the invention of the automobile, Americans have been fascinated with cars. I'm not speaking about mileage-efficient, stripped-down cars either. I am speaking about big block motors, loud noises, and high horsepower. Don't get me wrong - I know how important mileage-efficient autos are now days. Even individuals who like big rides are now looking for the most fuel-efficient Sports utility vehicles. I own a peppy little Toyota, and I use it to get around every day. It gets 30 mpg, and saves me lots of money at the pump. Nonetheless, come the weekend I get in my large block engine Chevy Camaro, like the vehicles you see on Top Gear, and head out to the drag strip. Sometimes I pretend that my Toyota is one of the cars on Top Gear, and it's pretty thrilling. I imagine myself in a pack of cars, racing down the track, the Top Gear cameras filming it all. There is nothing else like it!

There are a lot of great things I like about large block engines. One of the main draws, of course, is the sound and the strength. I confess that I'm a normal guy in this respect. I adore the growl of big block Chevy motors more than almost any other sound. It is music to my ears when the engine roars, the tires squeal, and the car takes off down the strip at a high rate of speed. Nonetheless, there are many other fantastic things about a large block engines as well.

For one thing, they are much simpler to work on than newer engines. Now days, the trend is toward high-tech, computer-controlled autos. Within another 5 or 10 years in point of fact, autos will be so dependent on their electronics that it will be impossible to work on them unless you are a professional. That's why I love old large block motor cars. You can truly get underneath the hood and see what's inside. You can bore out the motors, add custom aftermarket parts, and do anything that you want to tweak your car to drive exactly the way you like.

Another good thing about large block motors is that they are cheaper to work with than you might think. Once you learn how to fix your own car, it is amazing what you are able to build. You can purchase an old broken big block crate motor and rebuild it from scratch for quite little. Basically, as long as the motor block is not cracked, you can probably fix it. It gives you a feeling of success to have the capacity to tweak your own vehicle. The majority of us are so out of touch with the technology that we use each day, that it is refreshing to at least understand how our transportation works.
